Questions We Often Hear....

If you don't find an answer here, please reach out to us at info@experiencesup.ca

What do I bring to a lesson / session?

Dress for the weather! We know how quickly weather can change, so it's always wise to bring more layers than you think you'll need (such as rain jacket, long sleeved shirts and pants...)

Recommend to bring:

When should I arrive?

Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your start time. This will help ensure all paperwork is completed and everyone's ready to go, to get the most out of your lesson.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Prior to booking, it's important for you to review the waiver and agree to its terms.

Adults: All adult participants 18+ must complete the Paddle Canada Waiver prior to participating in any programs with us.

Youth: All youth under the age of 18 years old must have a parent or legal guardian complete a Parental Consent form and the Paddle Canada Waiver for their child prior to participating in any programs with us. Youth under 16 years of age must weigh at least 35 kg (77 lbs) and participate with a parent or guardian.

Do I have to stand up?

No! Paddle boarding is great fun whether you stand, sit or kneel on your board. Our goal is to facilitate learning at your pace! We want you to be comfortable at each stage of the process as you gain confidence and advance your skills. Did you know that even SUP pros sit and kneel sometimes when they paddle? These aren't just beginner positions.

Why do I need to know how to swim to register?

Even though you'll be attached to your board by a leash and will wear a life jacket at all times while on the water, paddle boarding is a water sport. Learning to SUP with basic swimming skills (at minimum) keeps you safer and helps ensure your experience is more enjoyable. Confidence with swimming also reduces fear of falling into the water, which isn't an unusual part of the learning process.

What if it's raining?

Lessons run rain or shine.

However, safety is our number 1 priority.  So if weather conditions (in particular wind/lightening) are deemed to be unsafe for paddle boarding, we'll cancel the lesson. This may be within an hour of start time. Even if it's sunny and warm, conditions may not be safe to be on the lake. In the case of weather-related cancellations, we'll reschedule your session for a different date or provide a full refund.
